Antique Dutch Sterling Silver Stork & Bullock Open Salt Ldn “F” H/M 1879 100g This is a fabulous antique figural open salt that was most likely produced in Holland in the mid-19th century. There are no marks for the country of origin. It has English “F” for “Foreign” hallmarks of London 1877 or 1879 (hard to read). The maker’s mark, in this case the importer, is “DB” in a rectangle for David Bridge. It is a heavy and good quality piece of figural silver. It features a broad squat bullock with its back forming the open salt. Alongside it is a stork with something between its bill; perhaps a bulrush top. It may be a 19th century allegory for the Moses story. The scene is set on a plinth with a decorative rococo theme border. The salt is in very good vintage condition with no faults or damage to report. Please refer to the photos as these form part of the description. Measures: 6 x 7 x 4.5cm, weighs 100g. We have listed several other pieces jewellery, silver, decorative art and collectables. Please refer to our other listings, we’re always pleased to combine postage costs to save you money.
